Okeechobee County and the City of Okeechobee have issued a county-wide burn ban effective immediately until further notice.  This burn ban prohibits burning of yard trash, and other types of fires such as campfires, bonfires, and burn barrels.     Emergency information will be broadcast on local radio and television stations. The radio stations are WOKC-FM 100.9, WOKC-AM 1570, and WWFR-FM 91.7 in Okeechobee, WQCS-FM 88.9 in Fort Pierce, and WAFC-FM 100.5 in Clewiston. The television stations are Channels 5 and 25 from West Palm Beach, and the local cable station.

    Any organization which would like to have a presentation by the Okeechobee County Emergency Management Office concerning hurricanes, tornados, flooding, terrorism, hazardous materials or Disaster Preparedness in general should call Emergency Operations Management Director Mitch Smeykal at (863) 763.3212.
