NOTICE of VACANCIES
Budget Director - $53,402 starting salary
Highly responsible staff work involving the direction of various functions and responsibilities related to performance evaluation, management improvement activities and budget design, subject to the requirements of the State Comptroller and the Auditor General. The Budget Director supervises the work of OMB personnel engaged in activities of governmental budget and accounting research, performance evaluation and management improvement operations; supervises and participates in technical budget analysis work including reviewing and making recommendations on amounts requested by county departments for operating funds and capital outlay appropriation. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Accounting, Public Administration or a related field with thorough experience in governmental budgeting, accounting and management improvement work including responsible supervisory experience. Two years of experience in governmental budgeting and accounting is required. An MBA/MPA or professional certification may be substituted for one (1) year experience.
Road Division Director - $51,847
Responsible administrative, technical and supervisory work in planning, organizing and directing the day to day activities of the County’s Road Maintenance Department, including personnel, budget and long range project planning. Graduation from an accredited two-year college or university with major course work in Civil Engineering or related field required; including four (4) years of experience in the supervision of road maintenance operations in an increasing responsible administrative position; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
Housing/SHIP Coordinator – part-time – 29 hours weekly - $16.48 per hour
Responsible professional, technical and administrative work implementing the County’s housing assistance programs including implementation of the County’s State Housing Initiative Partnership Program (SHIP). Prepares, submits and administers the budget for SHIP. Attends Board of County Commissioner’s meetings and workshops as required. Consults with federal, state, regional, private sector and local officials regarding housing and grant needs and availability of programs and is the liaison to the Affordable Housing Committee. Background in real estate and/or residential banking preferred. Must an AA degree in Planning, Business or Public Administration or related field with two years of progressively responsible experience in an above designated or related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Requires a TABE test with a minimum score of 11.0. TABE Tests are good for two years. If you have a Bachelor’s Degree or higher, please submit a copy of the degree with your application.
Animal Control Officer II - $33,278 – FT
Enforcement of County Animal Control ordinances and state laws relating to animals, ensuring the public is protected from diseased, problem and vicious stray animals, and that all animals are humanely treated after being impounded. Includes administrative duties in assisting the Deputy Public Safety Director.
High School graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Must have Animal Control Officer I certification with (2) years of experience in handling, trapping, ensnaring and transporting domestic type animals.
Program Specialist – Parks & Recreation - $30,454 – FT
Provides administrative assistance to the Parks and Recreation Director. This position also plans, organizes, implements and directs recreational programs such as soccer, basketball, summer play camps, etc. Graduation from an accredited college or university and major course work in recreation or related field. Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in a recreation program or related field.
Animal Care Specialist – part-time (29 or less hours weekly) - $11.56 hourly
Manual work in the care and feeding of impounded animals at the Okeechobee County Animal Control facility. This work includes feeding, handling and providing custodial care with compassion to a variety of animals as well as performing tasks relative to the general care and maintenance of buildings and grounds. High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Six (6) months experience in the care and handling of animals in a personal or work capacity; or any equivalent of related training and experience.
Lifeguard II - $10.89 (Seasonal, part-time)
Responsible for the safety of the patrons at the Sports Complex Pool. Must have current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid, American Red Cross or American Heart infant, child and adult CPR. Previous lifeguard experience is required. Must furnish certifications with application.
Lifeguard I - $8.84 (Seasonal, part-time)
Responsible for the safety of the patrons at the Sports Complex Pool. Must have current certification in
American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid, American Red Cross or American Heart infant, child and adult CPR. Must furnish certifications with application.
Swim Team Coach - $8.84 (Seasonal, part-time)
Responsible for the summer age group Shockwaves swim teach, a summer position normally beginning in mid May and ending the first week of August (approximately 13 weeks). Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification and certification in First Aid, American Red Cross or American Heart infant, child and adult CPR required. Must furnish certifications with application.
