OKEECHOBEE COUNTY, FL (Pop. 39,330; 50,399 seasonal).
Fire Chief/Public Safety Director.  Responsible for administration, management, planning and policy development for Fire-Rescue (combination paid/volunteer; 4 stations), Animal Control, Emergency Management, Vehicle Maintenance and E-911 Coordinator for the Public Safety Department.  Okeechobee County is a 769 sq. mi. rural county on the north shore of Lake Okeechobee.  Salary DOQ.
 
Requirements
-Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in Fire Administration, Fire Science, Public Administration or related field; Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree preferred;
- Eight (8) years of progres­sively responsible authority in the fire service with at least five (5) years service as a chief, assistant/deputy chief, or a ranking officer in a similar sized or larger department; or any equivalent combination of related training and experience;
- Current certification as a Firefighter as authorized by 633.412, F.S.; and all certification requirements under Florida Administrative Code 69A-37;
-Graduation from Executive Fire Office Program and certification as an EMT or Paramedic is preferred;
- Florida certified as a Fire Officer I;
-Valid Florida Driver’s License.

Equipment Operator II - $24,763 FT
Semi-skilled and skilled work in the operation of moderately complex public works equipment such as road grader, front end loader, backhoe, combos, dozer, rubber tire hoe, roller, etc.   Participates in the laboring work of the crew as workload demands.
Requirements:
Valid Class A or B CDL License with safe driving record – no more than 3 points off of license for infractions.

Summer Day Camp Manager (seasonal position)
8 weeks/begins 6/11/2014 through 8/5/2014 - $11.22/40 hours
Planning and organizing a day camp for approximately 30-60 children and supervising staff members.  Recreation, physical education majors and/or child care experience required.  Current CPR & First Aid certifications desirable.
HS/equivalency required.
                              
Asst. Day Camp Manager – (4 seasonal positions)
8 weeks/begins 6/11/2014 through 8/5/2014 - $10.58/40 hours
Supervises Summer Food program and/or implements planned programs for approximately 30-60 children.  Recreation, physical education majors and/or child care experience required.  Current CPR & First Aid certifications desirable.
HS/equivalency required.
 
Lifeguard II - $10.58 (Seasonal, part-time)
Responsible for the safety of the patrons at the Sports Complex Pool.  Must have current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid, American Red Cross or American Heart infant, child and adult CPR.  Previous lifeguard experience is required.
 
Lifeguard I - $8.59 (Seasonal, part-time)
Responsible for the safety of the patrons at the Sports Complex Pool.  Must have current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid, American Red Cross or American Heart infant, child and adult CPR.
 
Swim Team Coach - $8.59 (Seasonal, part-time)
Responsible for the summer age group Shockwaves swim team, a summer position normally beginning in mid May and ending the first week of August (approximately 13 weeks).  Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification and certification in First Aid, American Red Cross or American Heart infant, child and adult CPR required.

A pre-employment background check will be conducted.
Okeechobee County is an EOE/Drug Free Workplace.
 
All clerical positions require a TABE test with a minimum score of 11.0.  TABE Tests are good for two years.  If you have a Bachelor’s Degree, you do not have to have a TABE Test.
