NOTICE of VACANCIES


Grounds Maintenance Supervisor - $30,454 – FT
Supervises grounds personnel in maintaining routine and extensive grounds keeping activity of all County owned properties.
Duties include:
-Plans, assigns and inspects the activities of staff responsible for mowing and trimming of lawns, planting grass, flowers, trees and shrubs;
-Supervises trimming and pruning of trees and shrubs, applying herbicides, insecticides and fertilizers, litter and leaf removal;
-Assisting with minor preventative maintenance and remodeling functions;
-Supervises Department of Correction (DOT) inmate mowing crew mowing County properties;
-Inspects and maintains grounds keeping equipment;
-Develops and implements training procedures to ensure the safe operation of all grounds keeping equipment.
Required: High School Diploma or acceptable high school equivalency diploma.
-Three years of responsible grounds keeping experience, one year of supervision and, preferably, courses in lawn care and grounds maintenance or a combination of comparable education and training.
-Valid Florida Driver’s License with safe driving record.  Cannot have more than three (3) points off of driver’s license for infractions.
-Ability to maintain effective working relationship with the public and other employees.
 

• Building Maintenance Technician: $21,360 - FT
Maintenance and construction work in repair and maintenance of County buildings and related equipment.  Two (2) years of experience in building maintenance and repair in one or more of the building trades.
Required: High School Diploma or acceptable equivalency, Valid Florida Driver’s License with safe driving record; no more than 3 points off of license for infractions.
 
PART-TIME:
 
• Housing/SHIP Coordinator: part-time – 29 hours weekly - $16.48 per hour

Responsible professional, technical and administrative work implementing the County’s housing assistance programs including implementation of the County’s State Housing Initiative Partnership Program (SHIP).   Prepares, submits and administers the budget for SHIP.  Attends Board of County Commissioner’s meetings and workshops as required.  Consults with federal, state, regional, private sector and local officials regarding housing and grant needs and availability of programs and is the liaison to the Affordable Housing Committee.  Background in real estate and/or residential banking preferred.  Must an AA degree in Planning, Business or Public Administration or related field with two years of progressively responsible experience in an above designated or related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required: TABE test with a minimum score of 11.0. TABE Tests are good for two years.  If you have a Bachelor’s Degree or higher, please submit a copy of the degree with your application.
 
• Senior Services Meals on Wheels Driver(s): On Call Position - $9.68 hourly
Delivers lunch meals to elderly clients to their homes within Okeechobee County while providing limited daily contact with program recipients.
Required: High School Diploma or equivalency preferred, Valid Florida Driver’s License with safe driving record; no more than 3 points off of license for infractions. A background check will be conducted.
 

Office Assistant:  part-time, 25 – 29 hours weekly, $10.58 hourly – Extension Office
Clerical work involving answering phones, filing, data entry, etc.  HS/equivalency required, 6 months general clerical experience preferred.
Required: TABE test with a minimum score of 11.0
 
 
SEASONAL:
 
• Summer Day Camp Manager:
8 weeks/begins 6/10/2015 through 8/4/2015 - $11.56 hourly/40 hour work week
Plans, initiates, organizes, and directs an extensive and diversified agency program suited to the needs of participants and potential participants; approximately 30-60 children and supervision of staff members.   Recreation, physical education majors and/or child care experience preferred, must have two years supervisory experience as a leader in a variety of recreation activities and/or in rendering service in a recreation activity situation.  Current CPR & First Aid certifications desirable.
Required: HS/equivalency.
 
• Asst. Day Camp Manager: (4 positions)

8 weeks/begins 6/10/2015 through 8/4/2015 - $10.89 hourly/40 hour work week
Assists Center Manager in planning, initiating ,organizing, and directing an extensive and diversified summer camp program suited to the needs of participants and potential participants such as the Summer Food Program and planned programs for approximately 30-60 children.  Recreation, physical education majors and/or child care experience preferred, must some experience as a leader in a variety of recreation activities and/or in rendering service in a recreation activity situation.
Required: HS/equivalency required.
 
• Lifeguard II: $10.89 (Seasonal, part-time)

Responsible for the safety of the patrons at the Sports Complex Pool.  Must have current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid, American Red Cross or American Heart infant, child and adult CPR.
Required: Previous lifeguard experience.  Must furnish certifications with application.
 
• Lifeguard I: $8.84 (Seasonal, part-time)

Responsible for the safety of the patrons at the Sports Complex Pool.  Must have current certification in
American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid, American Red Cross or American Heart infant, child and adult CPR.
Required: Must furnish certifications with application.
 
• Swim Team Coach: $8.84 (Seasonal, part-time)

Responsible for the summer age group Shockwaves swim teach, a summer position normally beginning in mid May and ending the first week of August (approximately 13 weeks).  Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification and certification in First Aid, American Red Cross or American Heart infant, child and adult CPR required.
Required: Must furnish certifications with application.
