Service Rules and Procedures

HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE

      All Household Garbage must be placed in secure garbage can containers with lids, weighing no more than 40 pounds each and placed within 3 feet of the curb by 6 am. On your garbage collection day. (No garbage bags) DO NOT mix yard trash, hazardous waste, furniture, appliances, or construction & demolition debris such as fencing, floor tiles, lumber, concrete, etc. with household garbage. NO Tires, Propane Tanks, Automotive Parts, Boat Parts, Oil or Batteries.

YARD TRASH

      All grass, leaves, and tree trimmings less than 4 feet in length and no more than 5 inches in diameter, and weighing no more than 40 pounds per item must be bagged or contained within waste cans, and placed within 3 feet of the curb by 6 am, on your yard trash collection day. Yard Trash that is greater than 4 feet in length and greater than 5 inches in diameter or weighs more than 40 pounds per item is considered a ‘Bulk Item”, which requires special handling and collection by Waste Management, Inc. The customer must notify Waste Management, Inc. to schedule collection arrangements of these Bulk Items. DO NOT mix household garbage, hazardous waste, furniture, appliances, or construction & demolition debris with yard trash.

WASTE TIRES

      Disposal of Waste Tires are limited to four (4) tires per resident in a one (1) year period. Only DOT approved Passenger Car and Pickup Truck tires will be allowed for disposal. Tires WILL NOT be collected at residential curbside locations. Okeechobee County will only accept tires during Waste Amnesty Days. (4 Tires Only) The Free Disposal Location for Waste Tires (Okeechobee Residents Only) will be at:

You will be required to show identification for proof of address. No Semi Truck Tires or Off Road Tires of any kind. No Free Disposal of Commercial Business Waste Tires.

USED OIL & AUTOMOTIVE BATTERIES

      Used Oil must be contained in clear plastic containers that are five (5) gallons or less with a sealed lid to prevent oil spills or leaks. Used Oil must not be contaminated with water, coolant, fuel, grease, paint, cooking oil or any other liquid or material. Automotive Batteries must be intact for disposal. Okeechobee County will only accept Used Oil and Batteries during Waste Amnesty Days. No Commercial Business Used Oil or Battery Disposal.

APPLIANCE & FURNITURE

      Collection of appliances and furniture requires special handling and collection by Waste Management, Inc. The customer must notify Waste Management, Inc. to schedule collection of all unwanted appliances and furniture for disposal. The customer is required to remove all doors from refrigerators, freezers, ovens, ranges, washers, dryers and other similar appliances as required by FloridaStatutes Chapter 823.07, 823.08 & 823.09. Any person that abandons, or discards any appliance without the doors removed is in violation of Florida Statutes Chapter 823.07, 823.08 & 823.09, and may be punished by fines and/or imprisonment as defined in Florida Statutes Chapter 775.083. DO NOT mix household garbage, yard trash, or construction & demolition debris with appliances and furniture. Contact the local Goodwill Store about donating any unwanted appliances or furniture.
