New Florida Building Codes effective December 31, 2020
New codes include 7th Edition (2020)
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The International Code Council and the Florida Building Commission, housed within the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) announced significant changes to the Florida Building Codes that will result in safer, sustainable buildings and homes. The updated Florida State Building Codes are mandatory for all new construction or rehabilitation projects with a permit application date of January 1, 2018 or later.

When Submitting A Permit Application:
• Effective 4/1/16 per Florida State Statute 713.135 (6) (a), all permit applications applied for must be signed and notarized at time of submittal. For permit applications submitted electronically, the following additional statement must be included in the submittal: "Under penalty of perjury, I declare that all the information contained in this building permit application is true and correct." • A Site Plan is required showing setbacks, fire separation, overhead and underground utilities, septic tanks
• Owner/Builder Disclosure (if applicable) must be signed in person at building department
• Contractors must be registered with the County and have current liability and workers compensation insurance
• Three sets of construction drawings are required for non-residential work and two sets for residential
Prior to First Inspection:
(These items must be submitted to the building department.)
• Notice of Commencement (NOC) for jobs with a value greater than $5,000.00
• Preliminary Pest Certificate
• Road & Bridge Approval for Right-of-Way/Driveway Connection Permit
• Preliminary Soil Compaction
• Form Board Survey (if applicable)
Prior to Final Inspection:
• Final Pest Certificate
• Final Septic Approval
• Approved Road & Bridge Inspection
• Original Soil Compaction
• Finish Floor Elevation or Elevation Certificate
• Blower Door Test
Prior to Issuance of Certificate of Occupancy:
• Solid Waste, EMS and Fire Assessment fees must be paid
• Fire Fighter Safety Building Marking System emblem must be installed
