Kelly Owens was elected to the Okeechobee Board of County Commissioners in November 2016 with a term to expire November 2020.
Currently, Commissioner Owens serves on the Board of Directors with the Okeechobee County Chamber of Commerce as well as serving as the Chamber’s Chair of the Ambassador Committee.
She is also on the Board of Directors for the Okeechobee Educational Foundation and the CenterState Bank Advisory Board.
As the daughter of a career military man and the wife of a Vietnam veteran, Commissioner Owens was honored to be appointed to the Florida Military Compact Council in 2009.
She served in this position, at the confirmation of the Florida State Senate President and Speaker of the House, for ten years.
Commissioner Owens is a former Leadership Development Consultant and was responsible for assisting various governance teams throughout the state of Florida in the areas of ethics, leadership, finance, and strategic planning. She is the past Vice-President of a family business, Bob Owens Painting, Inc.
Commissioner Owens served on the Okeechobee County School Board from 2004-2012, the last four of those years as chairman of the board. During her tenure, Commissioner Owens held numerous statewide leadership positions. She was recognized as a Woman of Distinction by the American Business Women’s Association in 2009.

Commissioner Owens married Bob Owens in 1989 and, shortly thereafter, the couple chose to make Okeechobee their home.
